No. 11 Huskies Skate to a Tie with No. 13 Northeastern

BOSTON – The No. 11 ranked UConn women's ice hockey team skated to a tie, 2-2 coming back from a 2-0 deficit halfway through the second period Friday night. Northeastern would win the shootout.
Junior goaltender Tia Chan finished with 31 saves and graduate student Ainsley Svetek tied the game late in the third period with her third goal of the season.
In the first, the Northeastern Huskies got their offense working quickly as they would get the opening goal within four minutes of play off a rebound. Then, the UConn Huskies would earn its first power play of the game on a hooking penalty, and Northeastern would get itself a power play chance on a boarding call to make it 4 on 4 hockey. However, both penalties were killed. Northeastern put up nine shots to UConn's seven by the end of the period. UConn remained down by one after the first.
Both teams got off to an aggressive start firing shots on target. Northeastern would tack on another goal making it 2-0 Huskies. With eight minutes to go in the period, Kyla Josifovic got the scoring run started skating down neutral ice to pass it off to Coryn Tormala and went cross ice to Ashley Allard who then slipped the puck past the defender and the goalie for the first UConn goal of the game. Right before the second period buzzer sounded the UConn Huskies would get a second power play on a tripping penalty. The Huskies also tallied 13 shots to Northeastern's 12 in the period. The score stayed at 2-1 Northeastern after two.
Northeastern would kill the penalty carried over from the second period. In the third, both teams had close scoring chances trading shots. Then, at eight minutes to go in the game, UConn knotted it at 2 apiece. Ainsley Svetek from the blue line angled herself to get a shot off as the puck got deflected and found the back of the net. Northeastern would head to a power play on a high sticking penalty, but UConn killed the penalty. Northeastern got a second power play try right before the buzzer sounded but the Huskies once again killed the penalty to end regulation by a score of 2-2.
Neither team could find the back of the net in overtime. UConn would get a power play chance on a tripping penalty, but time would expire to end extra time at two apiece.
Northeastern would win the shootout, 1-0.
