Softball Falls to Boston University

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team dropped both games against Boston University on Tuesday afternoon at Burrill Family Field. The Huskies lost 6-3 in game one and then lost in extra innings, 1-0 in game two.
Game One:
Hallie Siems earned her 15th start of the season in the circle for the Huskies. She went 6.0 innings giving up six runs, on seven hits with six strikeouts.
The Terriers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the fourth inning.
UConn got a run back in the bottom half of the second inning off the bat of Kaitlyn Kibling. The sophomore doubled to center field, scoring Haley Coupal from first base.
The Terriers extended their lead to 5-1 in the fourth inning.
UConn came back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning off the bat of Lexi Hastings. She doubled to left center field, scoring Giuliana Abruscato and Savannah Ring, making it 5-3.
The Terriers added an insurance run in the sixth inning putting the game out of reach for the Huskies at 6-3.
Meghan O'Neil relieved Siems in the seventh inning, making her 23rd appearance on the season, as she tossed a scoreless frame.
Game Two:
Payton Kinney got the nod in game two making her 9th start of the season in the circle. She pitched 4.2 scoreless innings only giving up one hit with two strikeouts.
Game two was a pitcher's duel throughout with both teams only combining for six hits through eight innings.
Hope Jenkins came on in relief for Kinney in the fifth inning only facing one batter, getting UConn out of a jam, and stranding a pair of runners.
Meghan O'Neil relieved Jenkins in the sixth inning. She went 2.1 innings only giving up one hit with three strikeouts.
The Huskies had the game winning run on second base in the bottom of the seventh inning, but could not get the game's first run across, sending the contest to extra innings.
Hallie Siems came on in relief for O'Neil in the eighth inning.
The Terriers took the lead for good in the eighth inning scoring the game's lone run.
Up Next:
UConn returns to BIG EAST action this weekend, as they host the Providence Friars for a three game series in Storrs. The action begins on Saturday, March 30 with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00pm and the second game to follow at 2:30pm. Game three will be on Monday, April 1 at 3:00pm.
