HookC Loses on Senior Day, 14-9

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team (29-21, 14-4 BIG EAST) fell to Creighton (32-16, 5-12 BIG EAST), 14-9, on Senior Day on Sunday afternoon at Elliot Ballpark.
The Huskies jumped out to a 7-0 lead after three innings on the strength of a solo shot from Jake Studley in the second and a six-run third inning.Â
Maddix Dalena delivered a two-run single ahead of Matt Garbowski hitting a three-run home run to right to make it 7-0.
Creighton responded with six runs in the fourth against UConn starter Ian Cooke and reliever Joe Cinnella to cut the deficit to 7-6.
Caleb Shpur pushed the lead back to two with his second home run of the year, a solo homer to left, to make it 8-6.
Creighton followed with four runs in the fifth to take a 10-8 lead and the Huskies were unable to recover.Â
The loss snapped a nine-game win streak at Elliot Ballpark.
Next up, the Huskies hit the road for an extended road trip. UConn will face Cincinnati on Tuesday, May 14 at 11 a.m. and then travel to Indianapolis for a three-game series at Butler beginning on Thursday, May 16. UConn will remain in the Midwest for the BIG EAST Championship at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio.Â
