Huskies Drop Game 2, Split Weekend Series vs. UNH

STORRS, Conn. — UConn men's hockey fell to the University of New Hampshire by a final of 4–3, to split the weekend series. The Huskies took an early lead with a first-period goal but were unable to hold off a two goal third-period surge by the Wildcats.
The first period began with UConn jumping out on the early attack pressuring the New Hampshire defense. Midway through the first period, senior Jake Percival collected the puck at the New Hampshire blue line and after weaving his way through the defense, fired a shot past the Wildcat netminder for the Huskies first goal of the evening. The Huskies looked to build their lead but were unsuccessful as they entered the break leading by one.
In the second period New Hampshire found the equalizer as J.P. Turner was left all alone to beat Kam Hendrickson. The Huskies responded on the ensuing shift as Kaden Shahan was left alone on the breakaway and beat Jared Whale for the Huskies second goal of the night. Following a tripping penalty, the Huskies penalty kill was sent out on the ice. While on the kill, pressure from Ryan Tattle forced a turnover and was collected by Joey Muldowney who fired it back to Tattle for the shorthanded goal to give UConn the 3-1 lead. Late in the period on another power play, New Hampshire was able to convert to cut the UConn lead to one heading into the third period.
The third period was all New Hampshire as the Wildcats scored two goals late in the third period to secure the 4-3 win. The Huskies had chances to extend their lead but were unable to and following the two goal attack by New Hampshire, the Huskies were unable to find the equalizer with the goalie pulled.
UP NEXT: UConn will have a quick turnaround as the Huskies will host Stonehill Tuesday, November 25 at People's Bank Arena in Hartford.
