Huskies Fall to Northeastern

STORRS, Conn. – No. 5 UConn women's hockey lost to No. 8 Northeastern, 4-2 on Friday evening at the Toscano Family Ice Forum. The Huskies move to 11-3-1 in Hockey East play and 18-5-2 overall this season.
The first period began with Northeastern gaining early control, applying pressure in UConn's defensive zone. Northeastern scored the game's opening goal with six minutes left in the first period, making it 1-0. Northeastern doubled their lead in the waning seconds of the first period, extending their lead to 2-0. Northeastern took the two-goal advantage into the first intermission. Shots were in favor of Northeastern in the first period, 12-8.
UConn captain Kyla Josifovic got the Huskies on the board midway through the second period with her 10th goal of the season, trimming into the Northeastern lead, 2-1.
Northeastern quickly snatched momentum back, responding with a goal just 89 seconds after the Josifovic goal, once more making it a two-goal game at 3-1. Northeastern managed to strike once again at the end of the period with a goal in the dying seconds of the second period, giving the Huskies a 4-1 advantage going into the third period.
Midway in the third period, Josifovic cut into the Northeastern lead with her second goal of the game, her second multi-goal game this season, making it 4-2. UConn continued to throw everything they had at Northeastern, but the deficit proved to be too large for the Huskies.
