Huskies Fall to Northeastern in Final Seconds

STORRS, Conn. – No. 5 UConn women's hockey was defeated by No. 8 Northeastern, 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in front of 2,073 fans at the Toscano Family Ice Forum. It was a tightly contested matchup throughout, but it was Northeastern who scored the game's lone goal with 15.2 seconds remaining in the third period. UConn moves to 11-4-1 in Hockey East play and 18-6-2 overall this season.
UConn goaltender Tia Chan delivered a strong performance in net, finishing with 32 saves.
The first period began with Northeastern quickly testing Chan with several missed shots. Both teams exchanged penalties, with Northeastern earning a penalty shot early in the period, but Chan denied the Northeastern penalty attempt. UConn maintained pressure with numerous attempts on goal, but Lisa Jönsson of Northeastern made several key saves to keep it scoreless. The first period concluded with both teams unable to find the back of the net, despite consistent offensive efforts. Shots favored UConn, 13-9 in the first period.
The second period saw both UConn and Northeastern with multiple opportunities, but neither team managed to find the net. Both teams once again had power play opportunities but could not convert on their chances. Chan remained steady in goal, turning aside 15 Northeastern attempts on goal. The period concluded with UConn on the power play after a roughing penalty on Northeastern, but they could not capitalize before time expired. UConn edged Northeastern in shots in the second frame, 17-15.
In the third period, UConn generated steady offensive pressure, but their efforts were consistently thwarted by Jönsson, who made 15 of her 45 saves in the third period. With just 15.2 seconds left on the clock, Northeastern scored the game's decisive goal, securing a 1-0 victory.
UConn outshot Northeastern 45–33, generating more offensive opportunities throughout the game. UConn was unable to convert on any of its three power-play opportunities. The Huskies held a slight edge in faceoffs, winning 21 of 41 draws.
