ORLANDO, Fla. - The UConn baseball team travels to Orlando to take on UCF in a three-game American Athletic Conference series. The Huskies enter action 15-8 and 2-1 in American Conference play.
UConn is riding a three-game win streak after defeating Hartford and Boston College in midweek action in Storrs.
History vs. UCF... The Huskies are 11-7 all-time against the Knights. UConn swept a doubleheader at J.O. Christian Field in 2018 to earn a series win vs, the Knights.Â
The Huskies lost two-of-three at UCF in 2017 with the win coming on a go-ahead home run from Tyler Gnesda during the middle game of that series.
In 2016, UConn came to town and won a series against No. 12 UCF behind strong pitching performances from Carson Cross and Anthony Kay. The New York Mets prospect dominated in a complete game effort that featured just five hits and nine strikeouts to clinch the series.
History In Houston... The Huskies won two-out-three at Houston to open conference play. It was the first time in three attempts that the Huskies had won a series at Houston. Prior to the series, UConn was 1-5 at Schroeder Park. The Huskies won on Friday night behind a season-high 7.0 inning and eight strikeout performance from Mason Feole. During the rubber game, Mike Woodworth was the first Husky since Joe DeRoche-Duffin in 2016 to hit multiple home runs in a game.
Woody Goes, We Go...Senior Mike Woodworth has put together an All-American campaign for UConn in the leadoff spot. The Alameda, Calif. native has been a spark at the top of the order with team-leading .398 AVG, 35 hits, 23 runs and .476 on-base percentage.Â
The UConn centerfielder has put together a team-high 12 multi-hit games and is the only Husky to record a four-hit effort. Outside of his offensive numbers, Woody has been phenomenal defensively in centerfield. Defensive runs saved are not keot in the college game but Woodworth has been Gold Glove caliber to this point.
Staten Island's Finest... Anthony Prato has continued to be a rock for the Huskies at the top of the order and at shortstop. The junior is leads the team and The American with 11 doubles and has stolen a team-high seven bases.
Prato is second on the team in AVG (.348), hits (31), runs (22), walks (16), on-base percentage (.473). The slick fielding SS has only committed two errors in 114 chances and has routinely made spectacular plays to help out the pitching staff.
200 Within Reach... Only 19 UConn players have reached the 200-hit plateau in the careers. Both John Toppa (189) and Anthony Prato (179) are closing in the milestone. Willy Yahn was the last Husky to accomplish the feat back in 2017.
Feole Among UConn Greats... Junior Mason Feole contineus to climb the charts among the best pitchers to ever take the mound at UConn. Feole earned his 17th career win at Houston to move into a tie for ninth.Â
The left-hander has 210 strikeouts in his career ranking 11th all-time. Feole became just the 13th pitcher to reach 200 strikeouts against Michigan State.Â
Closing Time... UConn closer Jacob Wallace has been lights out this season for the Huskies. The Methuen, Mass. native leads The American Conference and is seventh in the nation with seven saves.Â
Wally has allowed just one earned run in 16.0 innings (0.56 ERA) walked only three and struck out 21. Opponents are hitting .135 against the right-hander. Wallace's save against Boston College was the first time this season that Wallace recorded just a three-out save. The previous six saves all consisted of four outs or more.
