ORLANDO, Fla. – The UConn baseball team pounded out a season-high 16 hits en route to a 10-0 mercy-rule victory against UCF to win the series at John Euliano Park. The game ended after seven innings due to a league-mandated mercy-rule of 10 runs or more on a travel day.
Jimmy Wang earned his first victory as a Husky with a career-high five scoreless innings of work. The right-hander allowed just three hits, walked two and struck out a pair.
The UConn offense jolted to life after only 11 hits and four runs scored in the first two games of the series. John Toppa (3-5) got the offense going in the first with one of his two doubles on the day. Toppa eventually came around to score on an RBI single from Chris Winkel to make it 1-0 Huskies.
