Huskies Even Series at SHSU, 9-4

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The UConn baseball team evened up its series at Sam Houston State with a 9-4 victory on Saturday afternoon at Don Sanders Stadium.
Jeff Kersten set the tone for the Huskies with five solid innings of work that included him picking up his defense on multiple occasions. The senior battled in the first inning with the bases loaded and no outs and only allowed one run.
In the fourth inning, after a misplay by center fielder Michael Chiovitti led to a lead off triple and Conor Moriarty committed an error, Kersten buckled down and kept the game tied at 3-3. The Pinole, Calif. native did not walk a batter, struck out five and earned his fourth win of the season.
Pinch-hitter David Langer (1-3) put the Huskies ahead in the fifth inning with an RBI single to left field. The Huskies scored in five-straight innings to build a 9-4 advantage into the eighth inning.
Anthony Prato (1-1) reached five times with a single and four walks while also adding a pair of stolen bases. Kyler Fedko (2-4), John Toppa (2-4) and Mike Woodworth (2-5) both collected multi-hit efforts and Christian Fedko (1-3) drove in a pair of runs for the Huskies.
CJ Dandeneau and Caleb Wurster locked down the 26th victory of the year with four combined shutout innings. The redshirt senior struck out four, allowed just one hit in his two scoreless frames.
The Huskies force a rubber game on Sunday at 12 p.m. ET as Jimmy Wang makes the start for the Huskies.
