STORRS, Conn. - The No. 22 UConn baseball team mounted a two-out ninth inning rally that nearly brought the Huskies out of a four-run hole but fell short in the comeback attempt, 5-4, against Cincinnati on Friday at J.O. Christian Field.
Trailing 5-1 entering the ninth, the Bearcats quickly retired the first two hitters in the ninth inning. But with two outs, the Huskies raliied with David Langer and Anthony Nucerino drawing walks to turn the lineup over.
Mike Woodworth doubled to right field to drive in a run to make it 5-2. Anthony Prato followed with a long fly ball to left center field that landed on the warning track and resulted in a two-run double to put the tying run in scoring position.
A strikeout ended the threat as the Huskies moved to 18-11 overall and 4-3 in The American. Prato collected his third multi-RBI game in his last four games by driving in three runs on Friday.
Anthony Nucerino recorded his second-straight multi-hit effort and scored a pair of runs for the Huskies in the losing effort.
The Huskies look to rebound on Saturday at 2:05 p.m. at Dunkin' Donuts Park in Hartford.
