DURHAM, N.H. – The UConn women's hockey (12-9-1, 9-5-1 WHEA) team suffered its first road loss of the season, falling to the New Hampshire Wildcats (11-9-2, 8-7-1 WHEA) in overtime, 1-0, Saturday afternoon at the Whittemore Center.
Senior Morgan Fisher netted 32 saves in the loss.
The defenses were on display through the first three frames. The Huskies were aggressive from the jump, peppering New Hampshire goalie Nikki Harnett with 14 shots through the opening 20 minutes.
The home team held a slight shot-on-goal advantage during the second period (12-10) but were kept off the scoreboard thanks to the stellar play of Fisher. The senior netminder stuffed all 12 shot attempts she faced, keeping the score tied 0-0 heading into the second intermission.
With neither team finding the back of the net in the final frame, the conference foes headed to overtime. UNH was able to steal the one-goal victory off the stick Maddie Truax, who crashed the boards and was able slip a shot past the outstretched hand of Fisher.
