CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The UConn women's hockey team (5-8-1) battled No. 7 Boston College on Saturday afternoon at Kelly Rink at Conte Forum but ultimately fell, 3-2.
The Huskies got off to a rough start with Boston College taking a 2-0 lead 10 minutes into the game. Both goals came off miscues on defensive end for the Huskies.
UConn was able to respond and created momentum towards the end of the first period. Danika Pasqua cut the deficit in half at the 15:42 mark in the first on a great individual effort.
The Langley, British Columbia native used her speed to chase down the puck in the neutral zone and speed past an Eagles defender. Pasqua backhanded a shot that lofted past Boston College goaltender Maddy McArthur.
The Huskies controlled the majority of the second period, outshooting the Eagles 14-8. Kate Klassen nearly tied the game from the slot at the 10:22 mark in the second period but was denied by McArthur.
UConn continued to apply pressure but it was the Eagles late in the period to score and extend their lead to 3-1. Kayla Barnes was able to notch her second of the year with under two minutes left in the period.
The Huskies were able to punch back on a shot into traffic from Natalie Snodgrass. The puck unintentionally hit off Habisch in front of the net and caromed past the goal line. The goal was the fourth of the season for Snodgrass and her ninth career goal against the rival Eagles.
In the third period, the Huskies forced the action with a 15-7 shot edge while looking for the tying goal. UConn created numerous scoring chances but were unable to even up the score and dropped to 0-4 against the Eagles.
UConn outshot the Eagles 39-19 and won the faceoff battle 29-22. However, despite some quality opportunities on the power play the Huskies were unable to score in their four chances on special teams.
The Huskies hop back on the ice on Sunday, Jan. 31 against the Eagles at 3 p.m. from the Mark Freitas Ice Forum in Storrs.
