CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The UConn baseball team (1-1) evened up its series with No. 5/16 Virginia with a wild 10-9 victory on Saturday afternoon at Davenport Field.

On a frigid afternoon with the real feel temperature at 27 degrees, the Huskies and Cavaliers battled in a marathon nine-inning game that lasted four hours and 21 minutes.

4 YR JR Christian Fedko recorded his first career four-hit game that featured a two-out, go-ahead RBI single that broke a 7-7 tie. The Huskies wouldn't look back with Caleb Wurster picking up the victory out of the pen with 2.2 innings of work that featured four strikeouts and no earned runs allowed.

2 YR FR Chris Brown had a career-day at the dish with his first two career hits and four RBIs. The UConn third baseman got the Huskies on the board with a two-out, two-run single in the fourth against talented right-hander Griff McGarry.

Brown followed it up with an RBI single in the seventh.

The Huskies were patient at the dish on Saturday, drawing 11 walks and wearing two hit by pitches. UConn generated three bases loaded walks and Brown was hit by a pitch to bring in another.

Joe Simeone got the start on the mound for the Huskies and went 4.1 innings, allowing two hits, zero earned runs and struck out four.

Game Notes

The 11 walks for the UConn offense is the most in a game since the Huskies drew 13 walks against Michigan State in 2019.
The Huskies are 22-19 against ranked opponents since the start of 2017. With a 6-3 record against Baseball America Top-5 teams since the start of 2018 (Virginia, Louisville, Michigan)
Grad transfer Ciaran Devenney made his first career start in a UConn uniform, drawing three walks and throwing out a base stealer.
