BSB Run Rules Georgetown in BIG EAST Opener, 10-0

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team returned to the BIG EAST conference in a big way on Friday night with a 10-0 run-rule victory in seven innings against the Georgetown Hoyas at Elliot Ballpark.
Starting pitcher Ben Casparius had a career-night with 15 strikeouts in a complete game shutout that featured just five hits and one walk.
The UConn offense gave Casparius enough cushion in the second inning with a two-run frame. Chris Brown got the Huskies on the board with a two-out RBI single and a few pitches later, Chris WInkel stole home on a double steal to make it 2-0 Huskies.
Christian Fedko led the way for the Huskies with three RBIs and a pair of hits. His RBI double in fifth inning was the 46th of his UConn career, tying for seventh in program history.
Designated hitter Kevin Ferrer drove in a pair of runs in a three-hit effort for the Huskies.
Chris Winkel ended the night with a walk-off homer to right field in the bottom of the seventh to close out the 10-0 victory and extend the Huskies win streak to six games.
The Huskies and Hoyas return to the field tomorrow for a doubleheader that will feature a seven-inning first game and scheduled nine-inning second game. The twin bill is set to begin at 12 p.m. in Storrs.

- Friday's win against the Hoyas was the Huskies first BIG EAST regular season win since May 3, 2013 against Rutgers.
- The 15 strikeouts for Ben Casparius was the first time a UConn starting pitcher struck out that many since Carson Cross had 15 strikeouts at FIU on March 6, 2015.
- This was the first time the Huskies run-ruled a conference opponent since defeating UCF, 10-0, on March 31, 2019.
- The Huskies six-game win streak is the longest since an 11 game win streak in 2016.Â
