No. 19 Huskies Fall at No. 15 Northeastern

BOSTON, Mass. – The No. 19 ranked UConn Huskies fired a season-high 61 shots on goal Friday night but goaltender Devon Levi turned away all but one to lead No. 15 Northeastern to a 3-1 win at Matthews Arena.
The loss snaps a five-game Hockey East road winning streak for UConn as they Huskies fall to 17-13-0 overall and 13-8-0 in the league. Northeastern moves to 21-10-1 and 12-8-1.
Levi stopped 15 in the first, 19 in the second and 26 in the final frame to preserve the win. He just missed his 10th shutout when UConn's Hudson Schandor (North Vancouver, British Columbia) scored with an extra attacker on the ice at 18:08.
Northeaster led 1-0 after the first on a goal from Gunnarwolfe Fontaine. NU's Ty Jackson made it 2-0 early in the third and Aidan McDonough had a goal and two assists, tacking on an empty net goal late.
UConn grad student Darion Hanson (East Bethel, Minn.) stopped 29 in taking the loss.
1st Period:
The Huskies put 15 shots on NU's Levi but it was Northeastern who grabbed the game's first goal and the lead. Gunnarwolfe got to the front of the net and saw his shot stopped by Hanson but he collected the rebound and tucked it home for a 1-0 lead on his seventh this season at 10:47.
2nd Period:
UConn outshot Northeastern 19-10 in the second but Levi again was up to the task. UConn came up empty on their one power play chance in the second but did kill off two Northeastern power plays to keep the game 1-0.
3rd Period:
NU made it 2-0 at the 2:47 mark of the third period as Jackson finished off a 2-on-1 chance off a feed from the right side by McDonough, his fifth of the season. After killing off another UConn power play, Northeastern's Levi kept the Huskies at bay and they tacked on an empty net goal off the stick of McDonough at 16:37. Levi picked-up the assist on the goal.
UConn pulled the goalie again and broke up the shutout bid at 18:08 as Schandor was able to put away a lose puck in the slot area, his fifth on the season.

UConn and Northeastern conclude their weekend series and the season series on Saturday afternoon at the XL Center. Puck drop is at 3:05 pm and the game will be televised in Connecticut on CW20.
