No. 25 HookC Takes Series Opener vs. St. John's, 12-7

STORRS, Conn. – The No. 25 UConn baseball team (22-7, 1-0 BIG EAST) opened its series against St. Johns with a 12-7 on Friday night at Elliot Ballpark.
The Huskies jumped out to a 6-0 lead with a six-run first inning that featured six hits and the Huskies sending nine batters to the plate.
Matt Donlan led the Huskies with a three-run home run in the first inning and then added an RBI double in the third and another RBI two-bagger in the fifth.
David Smith contributed a pair of RBI singles during a multi-hit effort the Huskies.
Austin Peterson picked up his sixth win of the season (6-0) with his six innings of work that featured just five hits, one run, no walks and six strikeouts.
Korey Morton added a pair of doubles including an RBI double in the fifth inning.
After St. John's made it 12-6 in the 8th inning, Brendan O'Donnell came out of the pen and struck out back-to-back batters with runners at first and second.
Brady Afthim came on in the ninth to get the final two outs and secure the first BIG EAST victory of the season.
The Huskies and Johnnies will resume the series on Saturday, April 9 at 4:05 p.m.
