STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team (12-5) hosts its home opener Wednesday, March 22 at 3:05 p.m. against UMass. The game will be streamed for free on UConn+ with Randy Brochu and Joe D'Ambrosio on the call. An audio stream will be on MIXLR with Randy Lavigne and Chris Jones on the broadcast.Â
The Huskies are coming off a 6-2 road spring break that saw UConn win a pair of four-game series at Hawai'i and San Diego State. The UConn offense was clicking during the eight-game stretch, scoring 78 runs (9.75 runs/game)
Dominic Freeberger and Ben Huber lead the way with a Freeberger hitting .379, with 25 hits, four doubles, three homers and 18 RBIs. Huber is hitting .343 with a BIG EAST leading (3rd nationally) 11 doubles, three homers and 18 RBIs.
David Smith leads the Huskies with 24 runs scored and 11 stolen bases at the top of the UConn order. The Collegeville, Pa. native also leads UConn with four home runs, including hitting a pair on Sunday against the Aztecs.
The pitching staff was solid against the Aztecs this past weekend, holding the lineup to four runs or less in all four games.Â
The Huskies are 91-71-3 all-time against UMass with the series dating back to 1900. UConn won the meeting in Storrs last season, 28-11, the largest margin of victory in the history of the series. Ben Huber had a pair of home runs in the contest.Â
UConn returns home to Elliot Ballpark on Wednesday, where the team has held a 34-5 over the first two seasons.Â
