STORRS, Conn. - The No. 15 UConn baseball team (28-10, 5-2 BIG EAST) captured a 12-5 series opening victory against Georgetown (22-17, 5-5) on Friday afternoon at Elliot Ballpark.
LHP Andrew Sears notched his second victory of the season with a superb performance on the mound. The West Warwick, R.I. native went a career-best 7.0 innings of work with a career-high 11 strikeouts. Both marks were team highs for the Huskies this season.
The lefty retired the first 18 batters that he faced before allowing an infield single on a softly hit spinning ball to third base that could not get Carapellotti at first base.
The UConn offense utlized a four-run fourth inning and six-run seventh inning to create distance and secure game one.
Korey Morton clubbed his eighth home run of the season, a two-run shot, in the fourth inning to make it 4-0.Â
Paul Tammaro capped the six-run seventh with his second long ball of the year, a two-run shot into the left field bullpen, to give UConn an 11-1 lead.Â
Ben Huber recorded his team-leading 15th multi-RBI game with three runs batted in including a two-run double.Â
Dominic Freeberger registered his team-leading 19th multi-hit game of the season.
UConn and Georgetown will close its series on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 12:05 p.m. at Elliot Ballpark.

- T.C. Simmons returned to the field after missing 31 games due to injury. He came in as a defensive replacement and made the catch for the final out of the ballgame.
- David Smith has now reached base safely in 28 straight games with a three-walk day at the dish.Â
- UConn is 7-2 in weekend openers this year, winning the last five in a row.Â
- The Huskies are 8-1 when Sears starts a ballgame this season.
