No. 9 HookC Rally In Ninth, Come Up Short at Creighton, 7-6

OMAHA - The No. 9 UConn baseball team (38-13, 13-5 BIG EAST) scored three runs in the ninth inning and placed the tying run at second but ultimately fell to Creighton (25-22, 10-9 BIG EAST), 7-6, on Thursday night at Charles Schwab Field.
The Huskies dug themselves a 6-0 hole entering the sixth inning. Ben Huber hits his 13th homer of the year to get UConn on the board.
Luke Broadhurst shortly followed with his 13th long ball of the season to cut the deficit to 6-3.Â
Creighton added a run in the bottom of the sixth to push the lead back to four at 7-3.
The Huskies rallied in the ninth inning with a pinch-hit RBI double from Paul Tammaro to make it a 7-4 ballgame. Team captain David Smith followed with a two-run single to make it a one-run game, 7-6.Â
After Smith stole his 34th base of the season, Dominic Freeberger lined out sharply to Creighton closer Tommy Steier and Ben Huber hit a long fly ball to the right field warning track that was hauled in.Â
With the loss, the Huskies have dropeed back-to-back games for the first time this season.Â
UConn looks to even the series up tomorrow at 7 p.m. ET with Stephen Quigley on the mound for the Huskies.Â
