OMAHA - The No. 9 UConn baseball team (39-13, 14-5 BIG EAST) scored four runs in eighth inning to lift the Huskies to a 6-3 victory against Creighton (25-23, 10-10 BIG EAST) on Friday evening at Charles Schwab Field.

The Huskies trailed 3-1 entering the eighth inning but rallied with the help from the Creighton pitching staff. After Paul Tammaro singled with one out in the frame and Dominic Freeberger was hit by a pitch to place runners at first and second.

After a strikeout, the Huskies worked three two-out walks from Jake Studley, Luke Broadhurst and Korey Morton to tie the game at 3-3. Freshman Ryan Daniels pinch hit and delivered a go-ahead two run single to make it 5-3 Huskies.

UConn pitching was solid all night limiting the Bluejays to just three hits. Starter Stephen Quigley logged a quality start with 6.0 innings of work, allowed just two hits, three runs and struck out five.

Zach Fogell came out of the pen and tossed 2.0 scoreless frames. The lefty got out of a major jam in the seventh just before the eighth inning rally. Creighton placed runners at first and third with one out. The Cumberland, R.I. native got a pop up and strike out to end the threat and keep it a 3-1 deficit.

In the ninth, Studley added an insurance run with an RBI ground out to make it 6-3. Closer Justin Willis closed out the game with a 1-2-3 frame to even the series up.

UConn is now a half-game ahead of Xavier for first place in the BIG EAST standings with a chance to clinch the title tomorrow. The rubber game of the series will begin at 1 p.m. ET.

Paul Tammaro recorded his first career four-hit game for the Huskies tonight.
Stephen Quigley has worked into at least the sixth inning in seven-straight starts dating bac to April 10.
