SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The UConn women's field hockey team (1-5) lost to undefeated No.7 Syracuse on Sunday afternoon.
The game started off slow, with a scoreless first quarter as the Huskies and the Orange battled in the midfield. Syracuse put their first point on the board in the second period off a penalty corner attempt to put themselves on top going into halftime.
As the third period rolled around, the Orange once again capitalized on a penalty corner attempt to make their lead two over the Huskies' zero. Syracuse solidified their win with nine seconds left in the game, making the final score 3-0.
Freshman goalkeeper, Natalie McKenna, tallied nine saves in the loss and kept the Huskies in the game. The UConn offense took only five shots to Syracuse's 19 on the day, with all five coming in the second half of play. The Huskies had four corner attempts, while the Orange had nine; and they have yet to capitalize on a penalty corner thus far this season.
The Huskies continue their stretch of road games next weekend as they take on Temple and No.15 Princeton. Their game versus Temple on Friday, September 15th will be the first BIG EAST conference opponent UConn will face this season.
