HARTFORD - The No. 4 UConn men's basketball team will conclude its preseason slate on Tuesday night when it welcomes No. 22 Michigan State for an exhibition matchup at PeoplesBank Arena. The contest between the two perennial powers will tip at 7:30 p.m. and air locally on WFSB Channel 3 with streaming available on UConn+ for a one-time fee of $7.99. Randy Brochu and UConn all-time leading scorer Chris Smith will have the call.Â
Both squads are coming off wins in prior exhibitions. UConn topped Boston College, 71-52, back on Oct. 13 in the Hall of Fame Exhibition at Mohegan Sun. MSU was in action at home on Thursday when they knocked off Bowling Green by a score of 75-66.
While Tuesday night will not count towards the all-time series, the Spartans and Huskies have split eight all-time meetings. They first met in a home-and-home series in the 98-99 and 99-00 seasons, with each squad winning on its home floor before going on to win a national title. The next six meetings all came on neutral courts including the 2009 Final Four and 2014 East Regional Final. The lone meeting in the Dan Hurley era was a semifinal classic in the 2021 Battle 4 Atlantis.Â
The Huskies recently had five honored in the BIG EAST Preseason awards, with the trio of Solo Ball, Alex Karaban and Tarris Reed Jr. all nabbing First Team honors while Silas Demary Jr. was on the Second Team and Braylon Mullins took home Preseason Freshman of the Year. Karaban led the Huskies with 17 points and 11 rebounds against BC, with Ball and Mullins each scoring 12.
Michigan State was led in its first exhibition by Coen Carr's 17 points and a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double from Jaxon Kohler. The Spartans are the defending Big Ten Regular Season champions and have reached 27-straight NCAA Tournaments under Hall of Fame head coach Tom Izzo.Â
Following the final tune-up on Tuesday night the Huskies will open the regular season on Monday, Nov. 3 against New Haven at Gampel Pavilion.Â
