No. 2 UConn Hosts Providence For $2 Miller Lite Night

STORRS – The No. 2 UConn men's basketball team (19-1, 9-0 BIG EAST) rides its 15-game winning streak into the midway point of conference play when it hosts Providence (9-11, 2-7 BIG EAST) on Tuesday night at Gampel Pavilion. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. airing on TNT and truTV with Spero Dedes, Dalen Cuff and Jared Greenberg on the call.

UConn and Providence have squared off 83 times in a near-century old series, with Connecticut holding a 52-31 advantage all-time against its New England neighbor. The Huskies are on a seven-game winning streak in the series, the longest for either side in the history of the longtime BIG EAST rivalry. Earlier this season UConn won a dramatic 103-98 thriller on Jan. 7 in Providence, rallying from down 10 in the final three minutes of regulation. UConn has also won the last seven meetings played in Gampel. Dan Hurley is 8-3 against PC as the head coach at UConn.
The Huskies are in the midst of their fifth single-season winning streak of at least 15 games in program history, last achieved in 1998-99 in a 19-game run. They are also off to their best league start at 9-0 since opening 11-0 in '98-99. UConn currently leads the country in Wins Above Bubble, per Torvik, and in Evan Miya Resume Quality. Connecticut is 12-1 in Quad 1+2 games, second most Q1/2 wins in America.
UConn was last in action on Saturday, securing a 75-67 overtime win over Villanova at PeoplesBank Arena. The Huskies trailed by four at half and was down for nearly 30 minutes of game time but gutted out a win thanks in part to a game-high 24 points from Solo Ball. UConn got heroic late effort from Alex Karaban, who scored all 17 of his points in the final 14 minutes of regulation and overtime and added eight rebounds. Tarris Reed Jr. recorded a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double, his second-straight, and Silas Demary Jr. scored 10 points with a game-high seven assists and three steals.
Ball leads the Huskies with 14.6 points per game and is coming off a season-high five made 3-pointers against Villanova. Reed Jr. scores 14.2 points with a team-high 8.1 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game while leading the BIG EAST with a 60.6 field goal percentage. Karaban does it all with 13.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game while posting a 47.8 / 41.8 / 85.4 shooting line. Demary Jr. adds 10.2. points per game and leads the BIG EAST with 6.2 assists per game and a 3.15 assist/turnover ratio.
Providence is coming off a setback to Georgetown on Saturday. PC leads the BIG EAST in scoring with 89.2 points per game. Jason Edwards leads the Friars with 17.2 points per game, followed by Jaylin Sellers with 16.0 a contest. The freshman duo of Stefan Vaaks and Jamier Jones also score in double-digits with 15.3 and 12.4 points per game, respectively.
Following the game on Tuesday night, UConn heads to Omaha for a Saturday night showdown at Creighton.
