Sixth Inning Dooms Huskies
4/26/2019 11:21:00 PM | Baseball
HUNTSVILLE, Texas – A seven-run sixth inning for Sam Houston State doomed the UConn baseball team on Friday night at Don Sanders Stadium. The Huskies lost 8-5 to fall to 25-17 on the season.
UConn trailed 1-0 heading into the top of the sixth inning, while being no-hit by junior right-hander Hayden Wesneski. With runners at the corners and two outs, sophomore Christian Fedko ripped a two-run double into left to give UConn a 2-1 lead. The hit was the first of the game for the Huskies.
After Pat Winkel was intentionally walked, Kyler Fedko unloaded on a three-run homer to push the lead to 5-1 in the sixth. It was the third home run of the year for Kyler and the second home run in three games for the freshman.
The lead did not last as the Huskies allowed a season-high seven runs in the sixth inning to give Sam Houston State an 8-5 lead.
UConn went quietly the rest of the game as the Huskies totaled just three hits in the ballgame.
The Huskies return to action on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET to try and even up the series against the Bearkats.
