OKLAHOMA CITY – Despite a season-high 19 hits and seven Huskies recording multi-hit efforts, the UConn baseball team dropped its NCAA Tournament opening game to Nebraska, 8-5.

The Huskers put together a four-run frame against UConn ace Mason Feole to take a 5-4 lead in the third and held on to advance into the winner's bracket.

UConn (36-24) will face the loser of Oklahoma State and Harvard at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday to try and keep its season alive.

The Huskies jumped on the board first with a two-run shot off the bat of Pat Winkel that carried over the right field bullpen. It was the team-leading seventh home run of the year for the freshmen.

The Huskies added two more runs in the second on an RBI ground out for David Langer and RBI single for John Toppa.

Both Toppa and Winkel secured four-hit efforts, the first time this season that the Huskies had multiple players record four-hit games in the same contest.

Anthony Prato, Mike Woodworth, Christian Fedko, Paul Gozzo and Kyler Fedko all notched two-hit performances in the losing effort.

The Huskies hit into a season-high four double plays to kill a couple rallies throughout the ballgame.

Mason Feole got off to a great start to the game by throwing a scoreless first inning. The left-hander struck out the first batter that he faced to record his 271^st career strikeout. That punch out made Feole the all-time leader in strikeouts in UConn history by passing former teammate Tim Cate.

Caleb Wurster pitched out of the bullpen for UConn and with his 34^th appearance of the year ties David Mahoney (2013) for the most appearances in a single-season.
