Huskies Split DH, Win Series vs. Wichita

HARTFORD, Conn. – The UConn baseball team split a doubleheader on Saturday at Dunkin' Donuts Park to claim a series win against Wichita State (21-26, 6-12).
The Huskies move to 29-19 on the season and are 9-9 in The American Conference.
Game 1
The Huskies clinched the series with a strong pitching performance in the first game of the doubleheader. Jeff Kersten pitched 5.2 innings and allowed just one run on a solo home run. The right-hander notched five strikeouts in his outing.
Caleb Wurster and Jake Wallace combined for 3.1 hitless frames to close out a 2-1 victory.
The UConn offense got all the offense it would need in the first inning. The Fedko brothers, Christian and Kyler, drove in each run to give UConn a 2-0 lead.
Christian smoked an RBI double over the head of the Shockers left fielder to score Anthony Prato. Kyler followed with a sac fly to the warning track in right to score Mike Woodworth.
Game 2
The Huskies lost the series finale 12-5 with the Shockers jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the third inning on a pair of home runs. Colby Dunlop allowed a solo home run in the second and a grand slam homer in the third to break the game open.
The UConn offense didn't start to click until late in the game with the Shockers already ahead, 11-1.
Christian Fedko collected a two-run single and Anthony Nucerino added an RBI single to close the gap to 11-4.
John Toppa notched an RBI single in the ninth to record his seventh multi-hit game in his last nine games.
The Huskies return to action after final exams on Friday, May 10 against USF at 1 p.m. at J.O. Christian Field. The weekend will mark the final games at J.O. Christian Field and the Huskies will celebrate its seven seniors.
