STORRS, Conn. – There have been some magical moments for the Huskies at J.O. Christian Field and shortstop Anthony Prato and captain Chris Winkel added another to the list on Friday against USF (23-25, 5-14) with a come-from-behind 4-2 win.
With the Huskies (30-19, 10-9) leading 4-2, and runners at second and third and two outs. Jordan Santos lined a shot to the right side of the infield that looked like it was going to tie the game. However, Winkel came in to save the day with a diving snag that ended the ballgame and secured a series-opening win vs. the Bulls.
The Huskies trailed for the majority of the game until Anthony Prato delivered one of the biggest hits of the season. A two-out, two-run home run to left field to flip the score line from the Huskies being down 2-1, to a 3-2 advantage.
For Prato, it was his second home run of the season and his second career home run against USF.
Mason Feole backed up his phenomenal start last Friday with another stellar start this afternoon. The lefty struck out a season-high 11 batters and only allowed one earned run in six innings of work.
Jake Wallace earned his 12th save of the season by grabbing the final four outs of the ballgame. The Methuen, Mass native has collected a save in three-straight UConn victories.
Kyler Fedko provided an insurance RBI single in the eighth to push the UConn lead to 4-2 while Mike Woodworth drilled an RBI double back in the first inning.
With the victory, the Huskies grabbed its 30th win of the season. UConn has secured 13 30-win seasons under 16th year head coach Jim Penders
The Huskies and Bulls will close out J.O. Christian Field on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. The Huskies will honor its seven seniors prior to the first game and there will be a ceremony after game two to commemorate the 52 years the Huskies have played at the JOC.
