NEW ORLEANS - The UConn baseball team (4-5) captured a 9-2 series finale win at New Orleans behind a superb outing from junior Nick Krauth on the hill and key two-out hitting at the plate.
Krauth was in control for the majority of the game with a career-high seven innings pitched a new high in strikeouts with eight. The right hander went through a stretch where he retired 11 Privateers in a row.
The UConn offense aided their starter with seven of its nine runs coming with two outs. Kyler Fedko, who collected four hits in the ballgame, gave UConn the lead for good in the fifth with an RBI single off the pitcher that deflected into left field.
The Huskies added on with two-out, two-run single for Reggie Crawford in the sixth, followed by an Erik Stock RBI double and Christian Fedko two-run single in the seventh.
Randy Polonia and Caleb Wurster came in and cruised through their one inning stints out of the pen.
The Huskies head to South Carolina next weekend to take on Presbyterian in a three-game set.Â
