BSB Sweeps Doubleheader at Presbyterian

CLINTON, S.C. - The UConn baseball team (6-5) swept a doubleheader at Presbyterian (2-12), 20-1 and 7-1, on Saturday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex.
UConn pitchers combined to throw 18.0 innings, allowing just seven hits, two runs and struck out 30 batters. Junior RHP Nick Krauth (4-0) set the tone with seven shutout innings in game one, allowing just one hit and struck out six.
The UConn bats supported Krauth with a season-high 20 runs on a season-high 16 hits. The Huskies scored 16 of its 20 runs in the final three frames including a season-high 10 runs in the eighth inning.
Kyler Fedko highlighted the scoring by hitting a pair of three-run homers. Erik Stock, Zach Bushling and Reggie Crawford all recorded three-hit games while Chris Winkel and K. Fedko notched multi-hit efforts.
JImmy Wang closed out the game with five strikeouts in two innings of work.
In game two, junior RHP Joe Simeone settled into the ballgame after allowing a run in the first inning. The Groton, Mass. native struck out a career-high 12 batters in a career-high six innings of work.Â
Pat Gallagher followed with 3.0 scorless innings that earned the freshman his first career save. Seven of Gallagher's nine outs were via strikeouts.
Redshirt freshman Kevin Ferrer drove in a career-high three runs to lead the UConn offense. Stock and Winkel each recorded three hit efforts.
Riding a three-game win streak, the Huskies look to go for the series sweep on Sunday at 12 p.m.
Notes
- The 20 runs scored by the Huskies is the first time UConn has scored 20 runs since plating 25 runs against Alcorn State on Feb. 28, 2016 in Clarksville, Tenn.
- Joe Simeone is the first UConn pitcher to record double-digit strikeouts since Mason Feole struck out 11 vs. USF on May, 10, 2019
- Kyler Fedko is the first Husky since Mike Woodworth in 2019 to record a multi-homer game.
- Reggie Crawford is riding a team-high 10 game hit streak.
- The Huskies 19 strikeouts was one away from tying a program record that has been posted multiple times with the last coming against Stetson in 2017.
