HATTIESBURG, MIss. - The UConn baseball team (2-4) gutted out a 10-7 victory to close its series at Southern Mississippi (4-3) on Sunday afternoon at Pete Taylor Park.

Austin Peterson earned his first win for the Huskies with six strong innings, allowing two hits, one run and striking out eight.

Reggie Crawford helped carry the UConn offense early with a two-run homer in the fourth and followed it up with a three-run homer in the fifth. Crawford finished the day with a career-high six RBIs

Pat Winkel delivered an RBI single in the top of the sixth to extend the UConn lead to 7-0.

Southern Mississippi responded with five runs to make it 7-5 heading into the eighth inning. The UConn bats responded with a three-spot in the frame on a two-run single from Erik Stock and a sac fly from Crawford.

The Golden Eagles brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth against preseason All-American Caleb Wurster but the left-hander induced a 6-4-3 double play to lock down the win.

Next up, the Huskies head to Conway, S.C. to play Miami, Ohio, Davidson and Coastal Carolina.

Austin Peterson earned his first career win with a quality start (6 IP, 1 ER). It's the first quality start for a UConn starter this season.
Reggie Crawford produced his first career multi-home run game on Sunday. The UConn first baseman posted a career-high six RBIs.
