BSB Sweeps Series Against UMass

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team (13-12) swept its series against UMass with an 11-1 and 7-3 victories in Saturday's doubleheader at Elliot Ballpark.
Game 1
In the first game of the double dip, the Huskies walked off in eight innings with an 11-1 run-rule. Zach Bushling led off the inning with an inside-the-park home run that boosted the UConn lead to 9-1.
Kyler Fedko and Reggie Crawford followed with home runs to right field to push the UConn lead to 10 and end the ballgame early.
Austin Peterson earned the his third win of the season with six solid innings, allowed four hits and tied a season-high with eight strikeouts.
Christian Fedko recorded three hits including a pair of doubles and drove in two runs. Crawford and Kyler Fedko also drove in a pair while Bushling contributed three RBIs.
Chris Winkel stayed hot at the plate with another multi-hit performance while Chris Brown notched a multi-hit game out of the nine slot in the order.
Game 2
After pounding out 16 hits, the Huskies only needed five hits en route to a 7-3 win.
Chris Brown delivered the big blow in a six run fourth inning with a bases-clearing double down the left field line.Â
Chris Winkel (2 RBI), David Langer (1 RBI) and Brown (3 RBI) delivered six of the seven UConn runs from the bottom of the Huskies order.
Joe Simeone earned his first win of the season with a season-high five innings of shutout ball that featured just two hits and season-high eight strikeouts.
Andrew Marrero, Justin Willis and Caleb Wurster each posted scoreless innings out of the pen.
Next up, the Huskies will host a mid-week game against Bryant on Tuesday, April 6 at 3 p.m.

- In four games this week, UConn starting pitchers allowed one earned run in 23 innings of work.
- On Saturday, the Huskies earned their first two wins against left-handed starting pitchers. UConn is now 2-4 against southpaws.
