No. 10 HookC Sweeps Doubleheader at Villanova

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. - The No. 10 UConn baseball team (32-11, 8-3 BIG EAST) swept a doubleheader to open the series against Villanova (11-30, 5-9 BIG EAST) on Saturday afternoon at Villanova Ballpark.
The Huskies trailed for just a half inning on Friday with Villanova taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first of game one on a two-run homer from John Wholley.
UConn immediately responded in the second with a two-run single from Korey Morton to even the score at 2-2.
The Huskies took the lead in the third inning on a double steal that the catcher fired into center field that allowed Studley to score. Bryan Padilla followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-2 Huskies.Â
Tommy Ellisen earned the victory out of the bullpen with 3.0 strong innings of work that featured zero walks and three strikeouts. Devin Kirby closed out the 7-3 win with 1.2 shutout innings.Â
In game two, starting pitcher Stephen Quigley was dominant with 7.2 shutout innings that saw the right-hander allow just four hits, zero walks and tied a career-high with 10 strikeouts.  The 7.2 was the most for a UConn starting pitcher this season.
The Huskies got all the runs they would need with back-to-back RBI doubles from Dominic Freeberger and Studley in the first.Â
Korey Morton drove in a pair in game two with a solo homer in the third and an RBI single in the seventh.Â
Maddix Dalena put a bow on the victory with a three-run homer to dead center in the eighth to make it 9-0 Huskies.Â
Joe Carrea finished off the 9-1 triumph in game two with an inning of work out of the pen.
The Huskies and Wildcats are scheduled to wrap up the series Sunday, April 30 at 12 p.m.Â
