HARTFORD – The No. 3 UConn men's basketball team (4-1) returns to action on Sunday evening to host Bryant (1-4) at PeoplesBank Arena. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. and airing on truTV with Brendan Glasheen, Steve Smith and Jahmai Webster on the call.
The Sunday meeting will mark UConn's first regular season game airing under the Turner Sports umbrella. All other instances of playing on TBS or TNT have been in the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies have played on truTV only one time in program history, when they cruised past Northwestern in the Second Round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
UConn is 2-0 all-time against Bryant in a series dating back to Nov. 2008, last meeting early in the 2014-15 campaign. The Huskies are playing their second game of the season at PeoplesBank Arena and their penultimate non-conference game to be held in the building. Connecticut has won its last 19 contests in Hartford.
UConn is coming off a top-five heartbreaker against No. 4 Arizona on Wednesday night at Gampel, dropping a 71-67 decision despite a furious late rally. The shorthanded Huskies went down as many as 13 early in the second half but rallied with a 22-7 burst over 10-plus minutes of game action to pull ahead with three minutes left. The Huskies could not overcome a huge disparity on the glass and ultimately saw a 36-game non-conference home winning streak snapped. Eric Reibe had a career day with 15 points, four rebounds and two blocks, playing a career-high 28 minutes and hitting his first two college 3-pointers.
The Huskies are off to a 4-1 start behind one of the nation's top offenses, currently ranked a top-10 unit by every major analytic metric. UConn is scoring over 86 points per game and shot 53.7 percent from the field, recorded 19.2 assists per game, shot 38.4 percent from 3-point range and posted a 2.0 assist/turnover ratio. On the defensive end UConn leads the BIG EAST allowing a 25.9 percent mark from 3-point range and is holding foes to 63.8 points per game, top-50 nationally.
Tarris Reed Jr. leads the Huskies with 20.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game but has been limited to three contests. Alex Karaban is off to a strong start to his senior season and averages 16.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 59.6 percent from the field and 61.9 percent from 3-point range. Solo Ball adds 15.4 points a night, while Silas Demary Jr. has posted 13.0 points and a league-leading 5.7 assists per game.
The Bulldogs are coming off a setback at Virginia Tech on Wednesday and are 1-4 on the campaign. Timofei Rudovskii leads Bryant with 12.8 points per game, joined in double-figures atop the scoresheet by Quincy Allen who averages 10.6 points and team-high 5.8 rebounds per game.
Following Sunday night in Hartford, UConn heads to 'Storrs South' for a Black Friday matinee with No. 8 Illinois at Madison Square Garden.
